IT Technical Officer – NIASRA at the University of Wollongong

The University of Wollongong’s National Institute for Applied Statistics Research Australia (NIASRA) undertakes fundamental research, industry focused and contract research, major consulting projects and professional education in Applied Statistics and Data Science. Its research involves developing and applying innovative computationally intensive statistical and analytical methods to important problems often involving big data in areas such as environmental informatics, remote sensing, biostatistics, and bioinformatics.

We are seeking a motivated, skilled, and highly organised IT Technical Officer to provide technical support to ensure NIASRA staff and students have access to appropriate hardware, infrastructure and applications for research activities.

The position of IT Technical Officer will be primarily responsible for the management, maintenance, and technical support of NIASRA’s high performance computing infrastructure, statistical and general software needs, big databases, and the NIASRA webpage. You will liaise closely with the broader Faculty of EIS IT group, and IMTS as required.

You will be fluent in Linux system administration and management of Windows and Mac environments, be highly developed in problem solving and problem management skills and possess a relevant degree or tertiary qualification in an appropriate IT discipline with skills in a programming language preferably Python and R, C++ or Java are required to be successful in this position.

Your additional knowledge and experience in a university/tertiary setting will be highly regarded.
