The Senior Physical Numerical Modeller position is responsible for strategizing, innovating, and delivering AIMS numerical modelling and oceanography research portfolio in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.

You will lead the initiation, coordination and delivery of innovative scientific research in the field of ocean modelling and establish and maintain AIMS’s reputation as a world leader through delivery of environmental and societal impact and sharing scientific learnings.

This role will provide leadership with a focus on motivation to engage, communication and relationship building in a Research Project Team environment, as well as engage with partners to design numerical modelling research which creates economic, social and environmental net benefit for marine industries and coastal communities along with conceptualising and implementing innovative ideas, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, to position AIMS as a world leader in numerical modelling.

This role has dual responsibility of Research Team Leader of the Oceanography and shelf processes team for a minimum of the first 3 years of employment at AIMS. In the role of Research Team Leader,

  • You will lead a team of up to 20 people.
  • Play a key organisational role in the delivery of science outcomes and the achievement of the AIMS Strategy 2025.
  • You will work with the Research Program Director to provide strategic direction and leadership to the oceanography and coastal processes teams and individuals, including science innovation and project portfolio management.
  • Be responsible for leading, guiding and developing the oceanography and modelling research portfolio in partnership with scientists within the team and across the institute.

Job package/benefits:

  • AIMS AOF Level 6 to 7 salary ($136,089 to $174,225 per annum) plus 15.4% superannuation
