What’s New in the ADSN – November 2023

Registrations are now open for the 2023 ADSN Conference

We hope you can join us in December for our 2nd ADSN Conference. This year’s conference is in Adelaide at the National Wine Centre of Australia. The conference is being hosted by the Adelaide Data Science Centre at The University of Adelaide.

The conference will feature keynote speakers:

  • Professor Sally Cripps, University of Technology Sydney
  • Professor Xiao-Li Meng, Harvard University
  • Associate Professor Fatemeh Vafaee, UNSW Data Science Hub

Additional invited speakers will be announced as we confirm them.

The ADSN is excited to be bringing together researchers from around Australia together to take part in this weekend’s three-day U.N. Datathon. Six teams of researchers from around the ADSN are coming to QUT and Brisbane for our main event. One team is participating from Melbourne, and there are two virtual teams. They’ll compete against teams from around the world.

The ADSN is also hosting a local opening ceremony in Brisbane this Friday. You can join us in-person or online.

DARE Hacky Hour: Parallel Programming Series

The ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Data Analytics for Resources and Environments (DARE) invites you to test your knowledge and learn new skills as part of its Friday Afternoon Hacky Hour (FAHH) Series focusing on Parallel Programming. Data Science & Wildfire Hackathon

The Melbourne Centre for Data Science is hosting a three day hack. Its aim is to bring together researchers across multiple disciplines to explore new approaches and solutions to Australia’s growing Bushfire problem.

Workshop on ‘AI governance and standards: comparative approaches’

Hosted by Monash Data Futures Institute and Monash Law’s Digital Law Group, this workshop will examine global standards for Responsible AI, and the governance via legislation of generic and generative AI that has emerged in Europe, the UK, United States, and their lessons for Australia.

2nd Bayesian Nonparametric Networking Workshop

We are pleased to announce the 2nd Bayesian Nonparametric Networking workshop. The format will largely follow the first of these new BNP Networking workshops that was held in Nicosia (Cyprus) in April 2022, this time with 3 mini-courses delivered by Jim Griffin, Athanasios Kottas and Stephanie van der Pas, who will also deliver Keynote talks. The workshop will also feature invited talks, contributed talks and a poster session each featuring a range of different topics presented by a blend of both junior and established researchers.

Australian Statistical Conference (ASC) & Australian Conference on Teaching Statistics (OZCOTS) 2023

Hosted by the Statistical Society of Australia (SSA), this week-long conference covers both new developments and interesting applications of statistical methods. The theme for 2023 is ‘Statisticians in society’. The last two days overlap with OZCOTS, providing a great opportunity to dip into the teaching of statistics.
